Last weekend, just prior to flying out to Norway with work, I visited the Rocks of Solitude on the River North Esk. This rock feature can be found just a short distance up river from Edzell on the road that takes you up towards Tarfside and Glen Lee.
It turned out to be a mix of weather with sun and a few showers, the river was running fairly hard after recent rain. Unfortunately the trees and other plants were still under Winters spell and had yet to show signs of new growth, it was therefore a very muted colour scheme consisting mainly of browns, greys and a bit of yellow.
I managed a few photos from various places but I think it will be worth a return visit in a few weeks once Spring has started in earnest and, although a long time away yet, I am already looking forward to seeing the place in Autumn!
As there was little colour I decided to turn my photos black and white and therefore shot the location with this in mind. I had also recently downloaded Googles Nik Collection which is now available for free. These photos have been basically edited in Lightroom and then finished off in Silver Efex 2 which is part of the Nik Collection.
